Best. Day. Ever.

I had the best day Thursday!  First, I WON a clip art give away!  I heart clip art!  I spend WAY too much money on it so I was so excited when I won!

Second, I was given the Liebster away by Amanda over at A Very Curious Class.  You should go visit her.  Now.  Just click here.  Isn't it adorable?  I'm loving her explanation of how she chose her blog name!

I have to tell you a secret... I've been reading everyone's Liebster Award blogs and feeling kinda... :(
So when I got the notification from A Very Curious Class... I almost did a Tom Cruise on Oprah's couch thing.  I saw almost because I don't want you to think I was THAT excited... but really...

Ok, here are the rules...
1. Link back to the blog that nominated you

2. Nominate 5-11 blogs with fewer than 200 followers

3. Answer the questions posted for you by your nominator

4. Share 11 random facts about yourself

5. Create 11 questions for your nominees

1.  Again... go see her :)

3.  Q&A
1. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school?  Easy... sit on the beach and read.
2. What is the best crafty project you've done? (home or school)  My mom loves lighthouses so when I was in college, I cross-stitched this huge pattern of lighthouses and a coast and ocean... it took forever- but she still has it hanging up.
3. What is the best vacation you've ever been on?  it's actually a series of vacations- but my annual Girl's Only Beach Trip(s)
4. How did your blog get its name?  When I first started teaching Kindergarten, I read a little about Friedrich Froebel, the creater of Kindergarten.  Although it was a very different program than what we call Kindergarten today, I was impressed with his goal of creating a place where children were cared for and nourished like plants in a garden.  I played around with combinations until I settled on My Kinder-Garden.
5. What is your favorite idea(s) you got from a blog?  I wish I could remember which blog it was, but it was a way of organizing sight words that students already know, are working on and will work on.
6. Do you use a reading/math series?  Yes, we use Investigations for math and Journeys for Reading.
7. What is the best "teacher tip" you would offer someone?  Don't be afraid to step back and watch.  It's ok for kids to struggle a little bit.
8. How many students do you have in your class?  Usually 21-22.
9. What is your favorite unit/topic to teach?  It used to be fair shares in math, but that's not in the Common Core so now I would have to say that I really like incorporating Speaking & Listening into other areas.
10. What is your favorite subject to teach?  Probably... social studies...
11. What is our favorite book(s) to read to/with your students?  Oh, the Places You'll Go... even though I cry... everytime

4. 11 Random Facts

6.  I have such a terrible sense of direction, I use my GPS everywhere I go.  Even if I've been there.  Lots.
7.  After I graduated college, I took a job 4 1/2 hours away from everyone I knew and loved.  I still think it's the best decision I have ever made.
8.  I've now been separated longer than we were happily married.  I should get an award.  I'm running out of things to tell you.
9.  I devour books.  It's routine for me to pick one up and not put it down until it's finished many hours later.  I pulled all nighter's when each of the Harry Potter and Twilight books came out- as well as many other books.
10.  For years, I paid to have my super long, super thick hair permed so I could have curly hair.  Then I went to college and got it cut short(ish) and thinned, only to discover I had naturally curly hair but my hair was so long and heavy it was pulling it straight.
